Nevado del Tolima (Summit Attempt)
Alta Montaña Responsable
4 Días / 3 Noches – 42 km aprox.
General description
“We don’t operate mass mountain tours. We design responsible expeditions where the summit is the goal, and conservation and a safe return home are our priorities.”
Our approach combines:
Real technical safety
Applied environmental education
Low-impact operations
Integration with the rural economy
OVERVIEW
Embark on a true high-altitude expedition to one of Colombia’s most imposing and technically demanding volcanoes: Nevado del Tolima (5,260 m).
This high-altitude traverse connects the Andean forest with the Nevado del Tolima glacial system. The program is designed with appropriate acclimatization, technical terrain management, and safety protocols.
The route begins in the Cocora Valley and ascends gradually through Andean forest, high Andean páramo, and glacial moraine, until reaching Base Camp (Primavera or La Playa sector). From there, after an acclimatization and physical evaluation process, the summit attempt is made at night, traversing steep slopes, unstable volcanic terrain, and a glacier.
It is a physically demanding expedition, exposed to extreme weather conditions, low atmospheric pressure, sub-zero temperatures, and inherent mountain risks.
Summit success is not guaranteed. Safety always takes precedence. This operation is conducted under principles of minimal environmental impact within Los Nevados National Natural Park.

Safety takes priority over the objective.
Important
DIFFICULTY LEVEL – VERY DEMANDING – LEVEL 5/5
This expedition:
Exceeds 5,000 meters in altitude
Involves the use of technical glacier equipment
Requires mental fortitude
Presents objective mountain risks
This program involves:
Over 1,200 meters of altitude gain on the first day
Summit attempt with limited recovery time
Prolonged night hike
Exposure to extreme conditions
Long descent after maximum effort
Requires:
Excellent physical condition
Previous high-altitude trekking experience
Ability to hike continuously for 8-12 hours
Good altitude tolerance
Not recommended for people without prior mountaineering experience.
It’s not a hike, it’s technical high-altitude mountaineering.
ENVIRONMENTAL FOCUS – 5TH ELEMENT
This program is developed under low-impact principles:
Small groups
Full waste return policy
Exclusive use of established trails
Respect for native flora and fauna
Coordination with local farms
Compliance with Los Nevados National Natural Park regulations
