General description
Located in the department of Tolima, La Carbonera, also known as the “Wax Palm Forest,” is the densest wax palm forest in Colombia. Situated in the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes, deep within the cloud forest, this destination offers breathtaking landscapes, ideal for those seeking to connect with nature and enjoy a tranquil and authentic environment.
Thanks to its limited access, La Carbonera is a less crowded destination, perfect for those who want a more intimate, peaceful experience in harmony with the natural surroundings.
If you love nature and adventure, this tour is designed for you.
We will begin the journey with a transfer from Salento to La Carbonera, traversing high mountain landscapes until we reach the highest point of the route, where the natural border between the departments of Quindío and Tolima is located.
Afterward, we will descend to 2,900 meters above sea level, where we will begin a hike along the trails of the wax palm forest, one of the densest in the country. During the hike, we’ll venture into the cloud forest until we reach the Tochecito waterfall, an ideal spot to enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.
After the hike, we’ll enjoy lunch at the traditional Colombian farm “Doña Marleny,” renowned for its delicious food and typical menu.
Finally, we’ll embark on an approximately two-hour horseback ride, allowing us to explore the landscape from a different perspective, traversing natural trails and enjoying privileged views of the forest. At the end of this unforgettable natural experience, we’ll begin our return to Salento.
