Ibague to Salento

Alta Montaña Responsable
4 Días / 3 Noches – 40 km aprox.

General description

The Crossing the Mountain Range Traverse is a 4-day route connecting Tolima and Quindío through Los Nevados National Natural Park, traversing some of the most iconic landscapes of the Central Mountain Range.

The trek begins on the Ibagué slope and gradually ascends from rural areas to high Andean páramo ecosystems, passing by lagoons, glacial valleys, and volcanic zones dominated by the Nevado del Tolima volcano.

During the trek, hikers will follow relatively untouched trails with constantly changing terrain: humid areas, long slopes, open páramo sections, and high-altitude areas exposed to the elements.

One of the highlights is passing through the Cañón Hot Springs, as well as traversing the Valle del Placer (Valley of Pleasure) and the view of Laguna del Encanto (Enchanted Lagoon), elements that make this route one of the most comprehensive in the park without requiring a glacial ascent. The journey ends in the Cocora Valley, one of Colombia’s most iconic ecosystems, renowned for its wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense), the national tree and the tallest palm in the world, capable of reaching heights of over 60 meters.

This unique landscape, composed of mist-shrouded mountains and vast high-Andean forests, offers a striking contrast to the páramo ecosystems traversed along the route.

This is not your average tour. It’s a true mountain trek.
